Riina helps investors, businesses and sovereigns anticipate and resolve complex disputes. She specialises in international dispute resolution and arbitration and is a Member of the Court (arbitrator) of the Permanent Court of Arbitration in the Hague. Over a decade in London and Brussels, she has advised hedge funds, businesses, states and high-net-worth individuals in investor-state arbitration, securities litigation, joint venture and regulatory disputes. Riina has represented clients in courts, in arbitration under leading institutional and industry rules, and in expert determination.

Riina often works at the frontiers of law. She has acted in multi-billion EUR disputes arising from two first-of-their-kind bank resolutions (Banco Popular and Credit Suisse), brought an unprecedented competition law challenge to a UK Part 26A restructuring plan, co-devised the first hybrid hearing of a major Commercial Court trial in London, and co-developed Mergetube, a data pipeline transforming EU merger research.

Riina advises clients throughout the investment lifecycle, from structuring investments to resolving disputes. Drawing on her disputes experience, she helps clients structure investments strategically, protecting value and managing risk before disputes arise. Her practice is further strengthened by experience in competition law, merger control (EU, Estonian and third-country), banking regulation and intellectual property, including the preparation of more than 12 EU merger notifications.

Riina is currently pursuing a PhD in Law at Queen Mary University of London, with her doctoral research focusing on the autonomy of EU law as a limit to arbitrability.
