Successfully represented interests of Latvian Sports Federations Council and the Latvian Olympic Committee in their the sports federation’s initiative “I support sport!”

Law Office under the leadership of Ingūna Ābele successfully represented the interests of the sports federation initiative “I support sports!” at the meeting of the Sports Sub-committee of the Parliamentary Commission for Education, Culture and Science.
The statement of the representatives of the sports industry was that during the first half of 2018, as the result of the tax reform, the amount of funds donated to sports has decreased, causing risks to further successful functioning of the industry, was heard at the session of the sub-committee.
Having heard the representatives of the Ministry of Finance, the Parliamentary Sports Sub-committee decided to address the government with a request to look for a possibility to compensate the reduction in donations to the sports industry in the amount of approximately two million euros.
The initiative “I support sports!” is meant for promotion of ideas and suggestions for improvement of the situation of the sports industry in the state. The representatives of the industry believe that sports in Latvia is underfinanced and the sports administration is operating inefficiently. Therefore, the aim of the initiative is to raise the issue of current situation in the industry in the country, and to find ways to solve the urgent problems. As the result of a research, law firm WALLESS summarised and analysed the amount of donations received during the first six-month period of 2018 and provided recommendations for the improvement of the financing model of the public benefit organizations.
