What does it really mean to think critically?
It means not only questioning what we hear, but understanding what our conclusions are based on, how an argument is constructed, and whether it is actually well-founded.
On October 1, WALLESS Partner and Attorney at Law Sandis Bērtaitis led the seminar ”Critical Thinking and Argumentation”, focusing on the main types of arguments, their essence, and their fundamental differences.
Participants explored how to distinguish a statement from an argument, identify premises, conclusions, and implicit assumptions, as well as assess whether a conclusion actually follows from the premises.
Critical thinking is a skill that is essential far beyond legal practice. It helps us formulate our thoughts more clearly, make better-founded decisions, and critically evaluate the arguments of others.
Thanks to Tālākizglītības mācību centrs pilsoniskai sabiedrībai and Skanstes City for organising the seminar, and to all participants for their active engagement!
