Sanctions and Other Contemporary Challenges in International Arbitration

2022 09 19

In international arbitration, no topic is less explored than national security. It is extremely important these days to see what economic tools the governments can legally employ to counteract the threats to national security or, in some cases, brutal force.

Our colleague Gediminas Dominas had an interesting challenge to moderate a security issues panel at the biannual Vilnius Arbitration Day with Eric de Brabandere, Charles Claypoole, Pierre-Olivier Savoie and Sergiy Gryshko.

They discussed lessons learned from the so-called Crimean arbitrations, governmental measures aimed at protecting their countries’ national security interests, and the realities of the arbitration proceedings in Ukraine during the war.
