Is it worth arguing with the State Tax Inspectorate (VMI), even when you think you’re right? VMI states it wins more than 90% of tax disputes. These statistics do not encourage Lithuanian businesses to engage in dispute procedures and they rather settle or accept the position of VMI.
In an article by Verslo žinios, WALLESS partner and tax expert dr. Aiste Medeliene predicts that an increase in fines for tax violations from May 2022 will further decrease the number of tax disputes. Companies found to have committed tax violations are likely to agree with the VMI, leading to fewer tax disputes, rather than risking their company’s reputation or financial losses.
