Forest owners are no longer required to pay the state twice for trees remaining after deforestation
On February 7 of this year, amendments to Cabinet Regulation No. 889 “On the Criteria for Determining, Calculating, and Compensating for Deforestation” came into force.
Thanks to these legislative changes, bureaucracy has been significantly reduced, and the compensation system has become more balanced and efficient. Forest owners now have greater flexibility in choosing the type of deforestation compensation, and the unjustified double payment for trees remaining after deforestation has been eliminated.
In a publication for iBizness, WALLESS Senior Associate Zane Kārkliņa outlines the key changes that forest owners should be aware of.
