“The Hidden Challenges of the EU AML Package” – Simona Vosylienė at AML Summit 2026
From July 2027, AML rules across the EU will come from a single rulebook, with the new EU Anti-Money Laundering Authority (AMLA) shaping how they are applied. One rulebook, however, does not mean one answer.
At the Verslo žinios AML Summit, WALLESS Partner Simona Vosylienė looked at what the new EU AML package means for obliged entities and where preparation should start. The package promises harmonisation, proportionality and a risk-based approach. In practice, many everyday questions are still open. Does every customer who isn’t high-risk default to a five-year review cycle? Does the entire existing customer base need reviewing before the rules apply? How do you verify place of birth when the ID document doesn’t show it?
For banks, fintechs and other obliged entities, 2027 will arrive with the customer base they already have. The time to test it is now.
