Lithuania’s AI direction, explained by Guoda Šileikytė and Dovilė Jakimonytė on Lexology
While Brussels continues to negotiate AI regulation, Lithuania is already building.
Lithuania was the second EU country to adopt a national AI strategy. Since then, the use of AI among Lithuanian businesses has nearly doubled, with more than 30% of large companies now using AI. The next step is LitAI, a dedicated AI competence centre planned by 2027 and expected to be the only one of its kind in the Baltics.
The direction is focused: cybersecurity, fintech, healthtech, defence and industrial automation. These are sectors where Lithuania already has depth, and where AI can move from policy discussion to commercial value.
“The hard-won AI Omnibus was agreed just weeks ago, with formal adoption still ahead, but key rules are already in force. In my opinion, businesses waiting for the dust to settle are already behind,” says Guoda Šileikytė, Associate Partner at WALLESS, who explores Lithuania’s place on the European AI map together with Senior Associate Dovilė Jakimonytė in a Lexology article.
