Gediminas Dominas has been appointed as a new ICC Court member

2024 07 12

Gediminas Dominas, a partner at the law firm WALLESS and a member of the Lithuanian Business Confederation’s Arbitration Working Group, has been appointed as a Court representative for a three-year term, the Lithuanian Business Confederation announced.

“The ICC Arbitration Court is the world’s largest international commercial dispute resolution institution. By serving on this Court, I will directly contribute to the drafting of international arbitral awards,” said Gediminas Dominas.

Previously, Lithuania was represented for two consecutive terms (2018-2024) by Renata Beržanskienė.

According to Beržanskienė, commercial arbitration offers an alternative to litigation and should be prioritized by businesses engaged with international partners. This method of dispute resolution circumvents lengthy court proceedings by leveraging procedural advantages such as international document submission, award recognition, confidentiality, multilingual evidence translation, procedural flexibility, and more. The ICC Arbitration Court, celebrating its centenary this year, has seen an increase in cases, handling nearly 1,000 claims annually.

The arbitral tribunal hears cases once and issues awards recognized in 169 countries under the 1958 New York Convention ‘On the Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Arbitral Awards’. Awards made in these countries are readily enforceable through a formal recognition process.

R. Beržanskienė will now serve on the ICC Arbitration Commission, bringing her 25 years of arbitration experience to further contributions.

Additionally, the newly elected members of the ICC Arbitration Commission, appointed by the Confederation of Lithuanian Businesses, include R. Beržanskienė, Giedrius Murauskas, Ieva Rimavičienė, Solveiga Vilčinskaitė, Audrius Žvybas, and Sandis Bērtaitis.
