Welcome to a new era of business support! Small amounts of aid (de minimis aid) limits have received a major update as the European Commission reshapes the financial landscape for businesses, ushering in significant boosts and creating additional opportunities for many companies.
The general de minimis aid has soared impressively from €200,000 to €300,000, while de minimis aid for services of general economic interest (SGEI) has increased from €500,000 to €750,000. These regulations mark a significant increase in ceilings for exempted small aid amounts, relieving businesses from the obligation to notify the European Commission or any other state aid rules. Both limits are applicable over a three-year period, requiring businesses to consider the total aid granted to a single undertaking, including aid to related undertakings when applying for a new de minimis aid grant.
The awaited changes will officially come into force on January 1, 2024, and remain applicable until December 31, 2030. This period promises a brighter future for businesses seeking financial support.
